Obama To Stop Deportations

For the past 5 years since President Obama was first elected to his first term and since 2012 when he was elected the second time, the President has asked Congress to enact an amnesty bill for the eleven to twelve million undocumented aliens here. Although the Senate has approved a draft, the House of Representatives, controlled by Republican, has refused to go along. The House is principally involved in setting up obstacles to any proposal the President offers, including passing his nominations for judicial positions and unfortunately for immigration reform.
Last week a Democratic House member warned the Republicans that if they didn’t agree to immigration reform, the President would issue an Executive Order that did not require Congressional approval. By his constitutional authority to make policy for Administrative Agencies such as the Immigration Service he would discontinue deportations of illegal aliens unless they had committed aggravated felonies. He would grant these undocumented the right to receive permission to work, and the right to remain here for two years or more, possibly until the next Presidential election in 2016 when the Democrats could win both the Senate and the House of Representatives. Then a Democratic Congress could pass a reform granting these eleven to twelve million undocumented permanent residence.
Besides the right to work, the President could allow these undocumented to obtain a parole to travel abroad, and of course by granting the right to stay here, States could grant drivers licenses to them because they would be in legal status. Like the Dream Act the likelihood is that those who qualify will after the 2 years allowance to stay and to work here receive another 2 years and likely ultimately permanent residence. A probable candidate for the Republican Party for President in 2016 will probably be Jeb Bush, former governor of Florida and brother of former President George Bush. Jeb Bush recently, publicly declared that these undocumented aliens are not criminals, only conscientious parents who’ve come here to put food on the table for their children.
Another proof of the President’s intention to do this appeared in the New York Times on April 7, 2014. The President admitted that he now feels ambivalent about his harsh policy of deportations for illegal aliens over the past 5 years, especially for those who hadn’t even committed felonies and who have American spouses and American children here. He hasn’t yet gone as far as saying he would issue an Executive Order but he implied it. The President will probably decide within 90 days to do this if Congress doesn’t pass a bill by that time.
