Bill Could Prevent State and Local Governments From Cooperating With ICE

Federal Immigration Authorities

New York state legislators have introduced a bill that would prevent state and local governments from sharing information or cooperating with federal immigration authorities. Known as the New York for All Act, the bill is in response to actions by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that have created fear among immigrant communities and that have resulted in abuses against some of these vulnerable individuals. Added Protection for Immigrants

By blocking local and state government officials and agencies from sharing information with federal immigration authorities, the proposed law will create protections for immigrants who seek essential services in our areas or who cooperate with law enforcement in the investigation of crimes against themselves or others. By blocking local and state officials from colluding and cooperating with ICE within the state of New York, the bill would allow immigrants to enjoy greater peace of mind when dealing with their everyday activities.

Abuses by ICE a Real Concern

Actions taken by ICE and other federal immigration authorities have created an atmosphere of distrust among many of the immigrants who live and work in New York. Fears about the abuses perpetrated by ICE have made it difficult for many families to manage their everyday responsibilities. By removing some of these fears, the New York for All Act could allow families to breathe a little easier if the bill is enacted into law.
