How will illegal immigrants do under President Obama’s health plan? Since the President’s preoccupation with universal health care has precluded him for now from attending to his promise to provide immigration reform, we have to consider how health care reforms may impact illegal immigrants.

The proposed national insurance exchange program which offers employers a more extensive choice to spread risk and reduce health insurance expenses would not as yet be available to illegal aliens. Still aliens would be able to buy health insurance from private insurance companies and they are by law allowed to seek treatment in emergency rooms in hospitals. The federal government provides reimbursement for hospitals who treat aliens without compensation and this program will continue.
